If you fancy a quick, feel-good make that uses up your yarn scraps and makes people smile, this little egg cosy is right up your street.

I’ve been making these in the cabin and honestly…once you’ve made one, you won’t stop. They’re perfect for Easter tables, little gifts, or just making your breakfast egg feel a bit more special.

And the best bit? You only need basic stitches, so if you can already crochet a little, you’ll be absolutely fine.

What You’ll Need To Crochet An Egg Cosy

  • Yellow DK yarn
  • Small amount of orange DK yarn (for the beak)
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Plastic darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Wobbly eyes
  • A chocolate egg or boiled egg to pop inside

How to Crochet Your Egg Cosy

Start with a slip knot and ch 18.  Put 1 htr in the 3rd ch from the hook, and continue with 1 htr in each ch until you reach the end of the row.

*Ch 2, turn.  Put 1 htr in the BACK LOOP ONLY of each stitch until the end of the row.

Repeat from * to end until your square/rectangle fits around your egg.

Fold your square/rectangle in half and ss the sides together.

Thread a needle with the yellow DK yarn and weave the needle in and out around one end to close it up.  Pull the thread tight to close up the hole.  Sew in your loose end.

Cut 10 strands of yellow DK measuring approx 10cm.

Thread some of them onto your plastic darning needle and thread them in and out of the end that you’ve just sewn up.  Repeat until you’ve used all the strands.

Give your strands a hair cut!

For the beak:  using the orange DK yarn, ch 3.  Put 1 dc in the 2nd ch from the hook and 1 htr into the 3rd ch from the hook.  Cut and fasten off.

Sew / glue your beak onto the upturned part of the egg cosy.  Stick on the wobbly eyes.  Pop an egg inside!

These look so lovely as part of an Easter table setting, or popped into a little gift bag for friends or family.

You could even make a whole flock in different colours… chicks, bunnies, pastel versions… I feel a rabbit hole coming on!
