Learn to Crochet with me!
Yay β youβve found me! Iβm Nicola, The Secret Crocheter, and I bloody well LOVE everything crochet! (Pretty sure youβve worked that out already.)
I reckon youβre here because youβd like to learn to crochet, and let me tell you, if I’m right, then Iβm the woman for you! Weβre about to embark on the most exciting journey together and I canβt wait to see you fall in love with crochet, just like I did (many years ago!).
Iβve been a teacher for the past twenty years and for the last sixish years, Iβve been teaching people to crochet; I think Iβve taught over 300 people to crochet to date! I hear a lot of the same phrases at the start of the session: βIβve tried to teach myself loads of times before but I just canβt get it,β or βIβm left handed so I canβt crochet,β or βIβm really cack handed!β Let me tell you now that EVERYONE can crochet; all you need is an awesome teacher (hello!) and plenty of time to practice.
I promise you β youβre only one step away from your first crocheted hat, scarf or blanket.
βI had my βLearn to Crochet” lesson back in May 2019 and itβs safe to say I was hooked. I have totally enjoyed my crochet journey with The Secret Crocheter, making new things in all of the wonderful workshopsβ¦Itβs safe to say crochet has changed my life for the better, with new friends I would never have met with The Secret Crocheter.βΒ Janet.
I live in a tucked away part of Melksham and this is where youβll find my purpose-built crochet cabin (built by my very clever husband).Β Itβs filled with bright and colourful crochet makes, all designed and made by yours truly, which will show you just how cool it is to crochet!Β You wonβt find a matinee jacket nor a pair of baby booties in here, oh no! Instead, youβll discover funky storage baskets, on-trend bobble hats, garden lanterns and stylish hand bags!
Right then, letβs get down to business.Β My Learn to Crochet sessions are 1-2-1, so itβs just you and me, for roughly ninety minutes. Sometimes it takes a little longer and sometimes a little less time is needed, but thatβs absolutely fine by me.Β Us teachers know that everyone learns differently and Iβve got plenty of tricks up my crocheted sleeves for anything that you might find tricky.
Coming on your own might fill you with dread but trust me β Iβm not scary at all!Β Youβll get soooo much more out of the session on your own than by bringing a friend who, letβs be honest, doesnβt really want to be there.

βIn Feb 2020, I had a Learn to Crochet lesson with Nicola. I was quite nervous but she soon made me feel relaxed. The lesson went at my pace; it was great to have the support to be able to master the basic stitches. I would 100% recommend it well worth the money.β Alison

Crochet is so popular at the moment which is great news!Β But it does mean that Iβm usually booked up at least one month in advance so please hit that button at the bottom of the page sooner rather than laterΒ – letβs get this crochet party started!
When you come for your Learn to Crochet session, weβll start right at the beginning with learning how to hold the hook and yarn, before moving onto learning how to get going (the chain stitch) and then Iβll teach you one basic crochet stitch (the treble crochet stitch), which youβll use to make your first ever scarf with!Β How exciting is that?!Β Did you hear me: your first ever crocheted scarf!
Just a little heads up – if you can already crochet (this means you can confidently hold the hook and do the chain stitch) but would like reminding of the basic crochet stitches, please take a look at my Confidence in Crochet Workshop, which runs once every 6 weeks. Click HERE to see the date of the next workshop.
Phew! I think thatβs it. Itβs been really nice to βmeetβ you and I do hope that youβll get in touch if you like the sound of what I have to offer. If youβre still wondering if itβs for you, picture yourself tucked up on the sofa with a cup of something warm and delicious, making something you can be proud of. If that makes you smile, I reckon youβve come to the right place.
P.S. I run adult-only (aged 18 years and over) workshops and lessons that arenβt suitable for children. However, there are lots of appropriate resources out there; you could contact some of the Wiltshire libraries who often host free drop-in sessions for knitting and crochet (take a look on Facebook as a starting point). And of course, YouTube is positively groaning with free video lessons for children just starting out.Β
