If you’re like me and always have a million crochet projects on the go, a ‘Hook Hint’ is about to become your new best friend! Just attach it onto your project, and it’ll quietly remind you what hook size you’re using, so you don’t have to play the guessing game later. Perfect for when you’re hopping between all your WIPs—no more wondering, “Wait, was this the 4mm or the 5mm?!” Keep your projects organised and your sanity intact!

These handy hook hints are handmade by me using my laser cutting machine.  They measure approximately 45mm long and 25mm wide, and have the hook size engraved onto each hook hint. They have a silver coloured safety pin attached to them so you can pin them to your current crochet project.

As with all wooden items, it is a natural material, and each piece may have a slight difference in wood grain and shade.  Please note: This is a laser engraved item.  Engravings may be darker or lighter on some wood due to the piece of wood used and the markings.

Please use the drop down menu to select which hook hints you would like.  For more than 3 hook hints, please use the drop down menu to select the offer and write which hook hints, and how many of each you would like, in the ‘order notes’ box at the check out.

A whole set includes 16 hook hints engraved with the following sizes: 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm, 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm.

Love these, beautifully made, great that you can pick and mix your sizes. Really useful as I always forget the hook size of my project. Definitely good value aswell.

Love these hook hints, I’ve always got more than one project on the go and now I don’t have to guess what size hook I was using! They’re so well made and such a funky design for us crochet lovers!

Hello there, it’s Nicola here and I’m The Secret Crocheter! I know what you’re thinking already: ‘it’s not much of a secret is it?!’ Well, no – you’re absolutely bang on there.  But I can explain, I promise!

So, the thing is, I used to be a primary school teacher, and to cut a long story short, I fell out of love with teaching children and fell in love with teaching adults how to crochet instead.  Nothing wrong with that, I hear you say…nope, nothing at all, apart from I was doing a bit of both at the same time (and I didn’t want my headteacher to know), so I had to teach crochet in secret…and so The Secret Crocheter was born!

I’ve always been able to crochet, ever since my mum taught me when I was around 8 years old, but I didn’t truly understand its importance in my life until I started to struggle with anxiety in my 30s.  In the midst of panicking and sweating over something quite irrational, I discovered that crochet released a calmness in me that I couldn’t find anywhere else.  I suppose the effects are similar to mindfulness, in that all I was focussing on was the here and now of crocheting.  And of course, this was followed very quickly by a deep joy when I’d created something that I could either wear, use or give as a gift. I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that crochet sort of healed me, and I soon wanted to share this skill with others.

One thing led to another and before I knew it, Mr SC had built me The Crochet Cabin, which is where I spend my days teaching wannabe crocheters how to crochethosting crochet workshops and designing my own crochet patterns and kits.  If I’m totally honest with you, The Crochet Cabin is my own creative classroom; it’s full of bright and colourful crocheted bunting for all seasons, warm and cosy hats and scarves, and practical baskets and fashionable bags – perfect for storing all that yarn you’ve collected and accompanying your new outfit.  I’m lucky enough to have a lovely teaching space in the cabin that takes the form of a table and seating, which feels like we are all gathering around the kitchen table, communing with our woolly projects, surrounded by the birds and trees in my garden. And it’s all this that I’d love to share with you.

So, here’s a proper secret coming up: since I resigned from my teaching job in 2018, I’ve been trying to shake off the feeling of ‘being a teacher’. But no matter how hard I’ve tried, the love of teaching and learning just won’t budge; I just love teaching – it’s that simple!

And the thing is, I’m not too shabby at it either, which means I can teach you how to crochet a whole host of modern and trendy makes, and instil a confidence in you that you didn’t know existed.  You’ll be the talk of the town once your friends and family start seeing all your handmade creations appearing around your home and garden!

And another little secret – your love of learning something new becomes addictive, and once you start, you can’t stop!
