I had a little request from Cabin Crew member Annette a while back asking for a reusable swatchboard, and as I don’t like to disappoint my lovely ladies, I got straight on with the job in hand. Actually, that’s not strictly true, I had to think about this one for a while and test out a few ideas first but soon enough I had prototype one made!

So, what is a swatchboard? When you’re crocheting a large project, something with lots of different colours which are named with lavish descriptions like ‘Paris Nights’ or ‘Eastern Dreams,’ it not always easy to identify which colour ball of yarn that description matches without searching through your yarn bag each time you need to change colour. With a swatch board, you can tie samples on the sides of the board, and label all of the colours before you start. When the pattern tells you to change colour, you simply glance at your swatchboard to see which colour you need and quickly grab it from your bag (without too much rummaging!)

A swatchboard usually comes as a piece of paper or card that you throw away once the project is finished but with my NEW reusable swatchboard, you can just wipe off the chalk and use your swatchboard again for a your next project.

Annette has now got her reusable swatchboard safely tucked away with all her other crochet essentials! I made a few extra and added them to the shop. Click HERE to take a look.
